Pain Management

Life with chronic pain can be unbearable. It is therefore no surprise that it can also spark substance abuse in certain individuals as they search to alleviate it. While drugs or alcohol may provide a ‘quick-fix’ to the physical discomfort and emotional stress, it will inevitably make things worse. Over time, the need to self-medicate only intensifies, and an already vicious cycle becomes even more vicious. When chronic pain and chronic addiction collide, the equally powerful forces prompt feelings of fear, loneliness and desperation. Our Board-Certified Pain Management physicians will tailor a personalized treatment plan designed to restore hope and begin a fulfilling and rewarding life in recovery, free from addiction.

The goal of chronic pain treatment for patients living with addiction is the same as individuals without addictive disorders - to obtain a reasonable amount of pain relief while maintaining a maximum level of function and independence. When pain turns into ‘chronic pain’, it typically means that the initial pain was either improperly diagnosed or improperly treated, often leaving the patient to feel as though they themselves are responsible for their continued suffering. We treat pain as the primary problem, not as a symptom.

The Landon Institute’s uses the most advanced diagnostic and treatment options available. Our network of experienced specialists in the physiology of pain will conduct a comprehensive physical exam, establish a thorough patient history, and order any necessary diagnostic imaging studies (such as X-Rays, MRIs or CT scans). After careful review and much consideration, our physician will establish your personalized treatment plan for pain relief.

The treatment of chronic pain is complex, often calling upon a multidisciplinary approach. These options may include: the appropriate prescribing of non-opioid medications and their management, specialized procedures (such as nerve blocks, spinal injections, physical therapy and other interventional techniques), and supplemental care (such as physical or psychological therapy). Your pain management physician will work closely with our primary care physician and the rest of your treatment team to insure open and timely communication.
